After months and months of hue and cry and spiked celebrity news show ratings, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” diva star Kim Kardashian’s divorce is a done deal.
Sorry, TMZ, People, National Enquirer, et. al. There will be no messy and drawn out divorce trial as a Los Angeles Superior Court ruled this week and ended the drama. Kardashian and ex-husband Kris Humpheries actually reached a settlement agreement back in April, but only this week was it finalized. The reality TV star and NBA basketball player reportedly had an “iron clad” prenuptial agreement, but the terms of the settlement haven’t been made public. (Do we mind?)
Complicating matters for the former couple is her dalliance with rapper Kanye West. Kardashian, you see, is pregnant. Now she’s single again she and West are free to do whatever many waning celebrities do these days – not get married.
Kardashian, 32, filed for divorce in 2011–a move that seemed to shock Humphries, 28. “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce,” the NBA player said upon learning the news. After all, they had been married 72 whole days. After that, the legal drama heated up, when Humphries tried to rebound by seeking an annulment, claiming fraud. He contended their relationship and lavish wedding were scripted for his wife’s reality TV show. Kardashian filed for a divorce shortly after that, and according to People magazine, Humphries wanted a legal separation if the annulment could not be granted. Both agreed on paper that the last day of their relationship was Oct. 31,2012, People reported.
“The court orders, good cause appearing, judgment of dissolution is entered. Marital or domestic partnership status is terminated and the parties are restored to the status of single persons on June 3, 2013,” The Los Angeles Superior Court wrote.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” Kardashian said in a released statement. “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
The battle to separate – which far outlasted the couple’s 72-day marriage – reached a peak earlier this year around the time Kardashian announced she was expecting a child with West. Then arose allegations of fraud, jealously and the threat of “exposing personal information” (something beyond the reach of the paparazzi’s lenses, perhaps?) Humphries once vowed that he “would settle for nothing less than an annulment of the marriage based on fraud,” claiming that Kardashian engineered their whole relationship for television.
Cross off one less thing in the world to worry about.
